Boxing mop-up: The Krista Ranillo edition
Fire Quinito rounds up the... oh who am I kidding? The issue involving Manny Pacquiao, his wife Jinkee, and Wapakman co-star Krista Ranillo is turning out to be a tougher hurdle for the pound-for-pound champ than his fight with Miguel Cotto.
Beth Celis, Philippine Daily Inquirer: “By neither confirming nor denying the reports, a source—who is often seen with the Pinoy ring icon—said Manny gave himself away. 'Not only does she [Krista] wipe his face and body during workouts, she also feeds him like a baby during mealtimes,' said the well-informed source. 'They’re saying that it’s Manny’s brother Bobby, known to be a chickboy, who’s romantically involved with Krista, but I don’t believe this. Bobby’s wife is as ferocious as a tiger. I saw him hit Bobby with a chair once at the L&M Gym, where he worked out, in a fit of jealousy. No, it couldn’t be Bobby.’“
Alex Valentin Brosas, Manila Bulletin: “Meanwhile, on ‘TV Patrol World,’a report said that Manny only gave the American press five minutes to interview him after his bout with Cotto; this, despite the press having waited for him for four hours. More, the media were told before the interview not to ask anything about Manny’s private life. The report added that Krista’s supposed guest appearance on several shows in the area were cancelled because of Manny’s directive about discussing his private life in public. The ‘TV Patrol World’ segment pointed out that Jinkee was not spotted at Manny’s victory concert held two hours after his match with Cotto.”
Reyma Buan-Deveza, ABS-CBNNews.com: “[Gina] Alajar was dragged into the issue after she posted a controversial shout out in her Facebook account in connection with the alleged Pacquiao-Ranillo affair. She wrote: “If I were Jinkee Pacquiao, I would not give up Manny. Krista Ranillo is not at all worth it!” In 2001, reports said Alajar and former husband Michael de Mesa ended their marriage supposedly because of the actor’s alleged love affair with Ranillo, who is a current columnist for men’s magazine Maxim.”

Oh shut up. You know you’re going to click and read every link in this post. Kunyari ka pa.

Lolit Solis claims that the Carla Abellana-JC Intal breakup is just a gimmick, so fans would be fooled into thinking that Carla is available to fall in love with her Rosalinda leading man Geoff Eigenmann. Manay Lolit posts as proof pictures of the couple together.
Kris Aquino and James Yap have set their church wedding for October next year, which is, oddly enough, right in time for the opening of the new PBA season. Also, as a Purefoods fan, I’m just happy that Kris is not in charge of James’s career, because if she were, Kris would have her husband play for the Coca-Cola Tigers, according to this Rey Joble blog post.
Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao, mother of the people’s champion Manny Pacquiao, will star opposite Ai-Ai de las Alas and former President Joseph Estrada in Star Cinema’s Ang Tanging Pamilya.
What’s keeping Chris Tiu busy apart from playing for Smart Gilas? Apparently, according to Dolly Ann Carvajal, flirting away with Wilma Doesnt.
Nonito Donaire, one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, was eliminated in the latest round of Celebrity Duets. He’s still a better singer than Manny Pacquiao though.
Valerie Concepcion denies that she’s in a relationship with Wowowee host Willie Revillame. She does confirm though that she and Dondon Hontiveros are still dating and "enjoying each other’s company."
Another Wowowee co-host, RR Enriquez, celebrated her birthday and her wish? To have a boyfriend. Last August, RR denied rumors that she was seen torridly making out with Jayjay Helterbrand in public.

Suggestion from brilliant Philippine senators: Let Manny Pacquiao talk peace with Mindanao rebels

Fighting recently broke out again in Mindanao’s Basilan province, with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo asking the military to crush the rebel group Abu Sayyaf. Opposition senators, however, came up with an alternative: Let boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighter, Manny Pacquiao, negotiate with rebels in Mindanao.
GMA News quoted Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel as saying that the government “should get Pacquiao to work as the peace ambassador instead of employing an all-out offensive because it would only worsen the situation. He should help find a solution to the problem by talking with the leader of the rebel group.” Senator Chiz Escudero agreed with Pimentel’s suggestion.
I know that Pacquiao is already a special agent for the Department of Justice, and that he has already made calls to Communist rebels to stop fighting with the government. But Pacquiao handling a negotiation? Any kind of negotiation? That’s just hilarious. You know?
Remember, this is the same guy who acted like a prima donna while haggling about the details of the purse for his fight versus Ricky Hatton. He was also the same guy who tried to break off his contract with Solar Sports to go with ABS-CBN prior to the Hatton fight, only to change his mind a few days later. And now, he’s the guy who couldn’t agree with Miguel Cotto on a catch weight for their fight this fall. And you want him to negotiate on our behalf?
Fortunately, Pacquiao probably won’t have time to devote to peace talks, since he’s very busy these days. Nope, not with training for the Cotto fight, but with shooting his latest television show, “Show Me the Manny” where he’ll star alongside Marian Rivera and Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao. Now you know.

Shaq tears up Monday Night Raw
WWE Raw's latest desperate gimmick has been getting different celebrities to host their struggling flagship program each week. This past Monday, it was the Big Sidekick, Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille O'Neal. He was a natural for the part.
Lang Whitaker of Slam! has the best recap of the evening's activities, from the perspective of a guy who used to be a fan, but hasn't watched wrestling for a few years, as I'm sure most of you are.
It's only a matter of time before Manny Pacquiao makes an appearance on Raw, to promote his movie with Batista. Let's just hope Vince McMahon doesn't put Mommy Dionisia in a Diva's lingerie match.

Boxing mop-up: Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao prefers Piolo Pascual over Jericho Rosales, and other Pinoy boxing news
Fire Quinito is back with the best of Pinoy boxing news on the web, so you can get back to being excited for Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2.

(“Aling Dionisia was asked if it was true that she wanted to be partnered with Piolo Pascual if she were to star in a movie. ‘Yes,’ she answered. Apart from Piolo, who else would she like to be paired with? Jericho Rosales, who starred in the Manny Pacquiao biopic, would be her preference. But if she were given a choice between Piolo and Jericho, with who, would she want to be in a movie? ‘Piolo Pascual,’ Mommy Dionisia answered with a smile.”)
Dan Rafael, ESPN: “The sport had lost one of its all-time greats, and flyweight titleholder Nonito Donaire had lost one of his heroes. Donaire is a huge fan of Arguello. Donaire's father and uncle were serious Arguello fans, and it rubbed off on him as a kid. Now he has a collection of Arguello fights that he watches regularly. ‘When I was in the process of learning to throw the hook, my dad would show me Arguello’s moves. He throws his hook at an angle, almost like an uppercut, and that’s how I throw my hook, because of Arguello. My dad taught it to me that way,’ Donaire said. It was that left hook that knocked out Darchinyan in Donaire’s biggest victory. ‘We watched Arguello on tape and we would go over it,’ Donaire said. ‘I remember being very young, maybe 11 or 12, and my dad saying, This is how Arguello throws his hook.”
Michael Rosenthal, The Ring: “Several knowledgeable observers have suggested that [Miguel] Cotto struggles only when his opponent backs him up, as [Antonio] Margarito did. And Pacquiao doesn’t fight like Margarito. Moving forward, Cotto can be a dominating fighter. And many still wonder what will happen when Pacquiao takes a big punch from a real welterweight, as Cotto is. The guess here is that his chin will be tested as never before. Bottom line: Cotto is big enough, experienced enough and good enough to beat the most-celebrated fighter in the world, a fact that Pacquaio’s many fans will find hard to swallow. It’s true, though; it can happen.”
Tim Starks, The Queensberry Rules: “Gerry Penalosa says he wants a piece of Vic Darchinyan and the teams have discussed the fight. Penalosa doesn't think anyone at bantamweight beats him, and maybe some people do, but not Darchinyan. Darchinyan is made to order for Penalosa. As much as I'd like to see Penalosa get another big money fight, Darchinyan would be wiser than wise to return to junior bantamweight or do a rematch with Joseph Abeko if he stays at bantam. Penalosa-Darchinyan would be Sept. 4, maybe in the Philippines, where Darchinyan -- judging by some of the comments out of the Philippines on this site -- would be heckled ENDLESSLY.”
SC, Bad Left Hook: “Donaire-Concepcion is a pretty safe bet for a Donaire win, a fairly easy move up to 115, but not a lot different than the proposed Donaire-Cazares bout, which I found mildly interesting but also sort of transparent. [Hugo] Cazares really doesn't belong at the weight, and power, speed and youth were probably all on Donaire's side. Against [Rafael] Concepcion, he's taking on a guy who can take some punishment, but I also think Donaire will get him out of there in the middle rounds. Concepcion isn't a big banger and isn't particularly fast, so I expect him to really struggle to keep up with Donaire offensively and defensively.”
Doug Fischer, The Ring: “I think [Floyd] Mayweather sucks because he hasn’t fought a guy who had the ability to beat him in seven years (since the Jose Luis Castillo fights in 2002). I think he sucks because he proclaims to not only be the pound for pound best but G.O.A.T. I think he sucks because he has fabulous skill and technique and there have been at least five or six worthy challengers in the past five or six years who could have tested his mettle and talent -- and proven his greatness if he had accepted those challenges -- but he chose to dismiss them all for lame-ass reasons. He sucks because he has repeatedly cheated the fans and himself of meaningful fights. I don’t care about Mayweather’s upbringing. If you think Pacquiao or the late Diego Corrales, Alexis Arguello, and Arturo Gatti “got their hugs” during their childhood, you’re seriously naïve.”
Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports: “I don’t know a lot of people who care about whether a title is at stake. I think the majority of folks simply want to see a great fight. The sanctioning bodies are rife with corruption and charge the fighters outrageous sanctioning fees. Let’s say Pacquiao makes $10 million for his fight with Cotto. The sanctioning bodies typically charge 3 percent, so that means that he’d have to pay $300,000 of that to the sanctioning body. Does he get $300,000 worth of value? I think not. And many of the sanctioning body champions are frauds. I’d rather see Manny continue as he has been and chase the world’s best fighters.”
