I wrote a preview of the PBA Finals between Purefoods and Alaska for FHM. Regular readers of this blog, though, might already be familiar with the stuff I wrote there.

So kung sawa na kayo, I’ll just point you guys to this quick interview with the sexy Abby Poblador, also on FHM. Honestly? Her photo gallery is more interesting than my PBA article.

Rafe Bartholomew quickly parlayed his star turn in Quinito Henson’s column into an interview with former PBA courtside reporter (and crush ng bayan) Jannelle So, who now hosts Kababayan LA, a talk show for Filipino-Americans in southern California.



In the interview, Rafe gets tongue-tied when asked what it would take for Nate Robinson to become eligible to play for the Philippine national team. He also confirms that people from the SBP have been in touch with Robinson’s camp.

I have some questions, none of which really relate to Rafe:

1. Ria Tanjuatco or Jannelle So?


2. When you think about it, isn’t Lia Cruz basically Jannelle 2.0?


3. In the opening billboard of the video, why is Jannelle dressed like she’s going to Hollywood Boulevard to turn tricks after the shoot? Was it ‘Pretty Woman’ night?

Ginebra forward JC Intal has had lots of reason to smile over the past week. First, Lolit Solis reported that his supposed break-up with Rosalinda star Carla Abellana was just a showbiz gimmick to generate publicity for the soap opera.

Then last Friday, Intal put on a aerial show in Ginebra’s 100-72 beatdown of the hapless Smart Gilas, punctuated by a couple of two-handed slams. “The Rocket” looks like he’s got his mojo back.



The Philippine Entertainment Portal reached Carla for comment, and the actress talked about the sweet photos of her and Intal:

For Carla, however, the shots showed nothing romantic between them, especially the holding hands shots.

"Nagho-holding hands kami kasi lagi akong nadadapa o natatapilok," explained Carla. "Palagi niya akong gina-guide. Totoo 'yan, promise. Saka 'yan si JC sweet na tao. Holding hands does not necessarily mean you're together as boyfriend and girlfriend."

Glad we cleared that up.

Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire, the IBF flyweight champion, will make his debut at the super flyweight level next week, whetting Filipino boxing fans’ appetite for high-quality ring action as he steps into the ring against Panamanian Rafael Concepcion.

The Philippine Star reported this weekend that Donaire will be dedicating his fight to former President Corazon Aquino, and will in fact come into the ring with yellow trunks:

“One thing is that what she (Mrs. Aquino) has done for the country and what she has tried to do for the country is something that you have to acknowledge,” Donaire told reporters in a conference call to promote his upcoming fight.

“She has fought, just like her sign ‘Laban,’ which means fight. She always had that fight and love for the country to just get it to another level. I just have great respect for the late former president. It’s my way to pay her tribute and give my respects to her,” he said.

Donaire’s moving up in my list of favorite Pinoy athletes, not just with his rare combination solid scientific skills and punching power in the ring, but also because he’s well-spoken, articulate, and very proud of his heritage. We need more people like him on the world stage.

He also has a hot wife, the lovely Mrs. Rachel Donaire. As I have nothing more to add, I have posted a totally gratuitous photo of her after the jump.
