Manny Pacquiao dominates Shane Mosley in a disappointing snoozefest in Las Vegas

Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao failed to knock Shane Mosley out in their match this morning at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but they damn near put everyone who watched the match to sleep. After getting rocked by Pacquiao in the 3rd round, Mosley spent most of the rest of the match refusing to engage in combat, leading the crowd of 16,000 to serenade him with boos.

Boxing mop-up: More Pacquiao vs Mosley
Here's a second round of links to whet your appetite hours before the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley match. Check out the first batch of links.

TMZ.com: “Manny Pacquiao made a beeline for beef and chicken today after his weigh-in ... Filipino style, of course. Manny -- who is scheduled to beat Sugar Shane Mosley tomorrow in Las Vegas -- weighed in at 145 lbs ... 2 lbs under the welterweight limit. Immediately after getting off the scale, Manny followed his tradition and ate a big meal prepared by his long-time personal chef. And what, you ask, does a champ eat -- grilled beef, boiled chicken, rice, fruit and Filipino chicken broth soup.”

Fire Quinito rounds up all the links you need to read for tomorrow's big match between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley, so you can concentrate on your Mother's Day shopping.

Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports: “There was a time not that long ago that those in Manny Pacquiao’s camp had legitimate reason to be worried before his major fights. He didn’t have a right hand to speak of and he only fought moving in one direction. He was so aggressive on offense that he was deficient defensively. There wasn’t a lot of nuance to his game. One by one, Pacquiao has erased those flaws and turned himself into the best fighting machine the sport has seen since ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard more than a quarter of a century ago.”

Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley thoughts

MANNY PACQUIAO, the best fighter in the world, will win his match against Shane Mosley this Sunday. I’m not really going out on a limb with my prediction; at 39, Sugar Shane is past his prime, and in fact hasn’t been impressive in the last 22 or so rounds he has fought against Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Mora. The last time Mosley showed signs of being the dangerous fighter he was for most of his career, he was pounding Antonio Margarito from pillar to post a few minutes after Naazim Richardson, Sugar Shane’s trainer, complained about the Mexican fighter’s hands being wrapped by a hardening substance in the locker room. That was two years ago.
RIP Leslie Nielsen
My buddies and I were just talking about Leslie Nielsen a couple of weeks ago, at the cinema where we were watching the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito fight. The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders had just come out in their pekpek shorts to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and I told my friends that the girls’ version was my second-favorite rendition of the song, next only to Lt. Frank Drebin’s classic performance at the game between the California Angels and the Seattle Mariners.
Ang Sugarol: Odds, betting lines, handicaps
Editor’s note: Ang Sugarol is Fire Quinito’s special series on sports gambling. In our first installment, former UP professor and sports betting professional Ronald Po takes us through the basics of gambling odds, betting lines, and handicaps.
What’s better than cheering for your favorite team? How about cheering for them and getting some money as well? Traditionally, betting in local basketball involved head-to-head wagers as well the “ending” numbers game, which involves predicting the last digits of the final score of the basketball game.
The past few years, underground bookies have emerged to collect bets on NBA, UAAP and PBA games. More recently, legal online sports books have started operating in the country, allowing one to bet on a smorgasbord of sports competitions.

Manny Pacquiao and the greatest fighters of all time
Quinito Henson had an interesting series of articles last week about Manny Pacquiao’s claim as the greatest fighter ever, and by “interesting,” I mean “incredibly stupid,” even by Quinito’s usual standards. He prefaced the two-part column by saying that he would compare the achievements of four of the greatest boxers of all-time against those of Manny Pacquiao, and promised at the end of the first installment that he would try to make a “logical conclusion” as to which boxer deserves to be called the greatest.

Boxing mop-up: Manny Pacquiao cuts Antonio Margarito down to size
Fire Quinito rounds up all the must-read links from the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito fight so you could have more time pondering if PNoy made the right choice breaking up with Shalani and dating Liz Uy.

Scott Christ, Bad Left Hook: "We're witnessing something truly special. The NBA can keep LeBron James. Manny Pacquiao is at this point the most amazing athlete in all of sports. I stand by that statement."

Sparring Sessions: Smart Gilas team captain Chris Tiu talks about former co-host Manny Pacquiao and fighting for flag and country
Smart Gilas skipper, television host, and all-around good guy Chris Tiu joins us in the final installment of Sparring Sessions, a series of interviews with pundits, bloggers, and boxing fans that discuss issues that affect Pacquiao, Filipino boxing, and combat sports in general, veering into topics that mainstream media rarely talk about. Tiu and the rest of the Smart Gilas team are currently in China to compete in the Asian Games, but before he left, he was gracious enough to talk about his former co-host, the Vegas crowd, and playing for Philippine pride.
