A few days ago, Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas Executive Director Noli Eala announced that the Smart-Gilas RP National Basketball Team, the development team of the basketball association, was holding a camp in the United States for Filipino-American prospects. Among those being eyed is Pennsylvania State University starting point guard Stanley Pringle, and his credentials, according to the release, were pretty exciting:

The 6-foot-1 Pringle has a vertical leap of 42 inches, shoots 44 percent of his three-point attempts and earned the reputation of being the quickest guard in the Big 10 conference.

Wow, an athletic guard with crazy hops and a smooth jumper! Sounds like the perfect backcourt partner for Chris Tiu and Jayvee Casio. The name sounded familiar too, like I was supposed to know who he was.

Then it clicked. I actually read about Pringle on Deadspin. From the original article from the Daily Collegian:

Police said Pringle, the team's point guard, sat behind the victim in the stacks section of the library, attempted to start a conversation with the woman and began masturbating. Police have filed charges of public lewdness and disorderly conduct against him in connection to the incident, but Centre County District Judge Jonathan Grine, who is out of the office, was unable to sign the criminal complaint as of 2 p.m. today. Without the signed complaint, Pringle cannot be formally arrested.

Of course, Pringle denied the charges, but it didn't make him seem any less creepy:

Pringle told police he has "a bad habit of putting his hand down his pants," and demonstrated for the officer by placing his hand down the front of his sweatpants, according to the complaint.

"Why would I need to masturbate?" he told police. "This is how I chill, ma'am."

But the victim's statement told a much more horrifying story:

The woman told police that after 15 minutes of conversation with Pringle, she heard the sound of adjusting clothing followed by a "smacking sound, like Pringle's hand was smacking against the skin of his body."

The victim said she did not turn around because she was afraid, adding that she believed this to be the sound of masturbation and could see a reflection of Pringle's hand moving back and forth, according to the criminal complaint.

The woman told police that Pringle then answered his ringing cell phone and proceeded to make "moaning sounds" and "sounded like he was short of breath."

Frightened, the victim said she sent a text message to her friend asking for her to call her so she had an excuse to leave the area, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim told police that after walking through the bookshelves while answering her phone, she saw Pringle rubbing his hands together, "as if he had just put lotion on them," and when she returned to her seat, she said she saw Pringle tying the drawstring on his sweatpants.

If Pringle makes the team, I hope that Serbian coach Rajko Toroman doesn't assign him to be Chris Tiu's new roommate. Otherwise, Tiu might find himself praying the rosary a hell of a lot.
