The best boxer in the planet, Manny Pacquiao, is taking his new designation as a Philippine special intelligence agent very seriously. Today he called on the New People's Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, to lay down their guns and end the longest insurgency in Southeast Asia.

It's funny though, because a couple of years back, Pacquiao starred in a movie called "Anak ng Kumander" ("Son of the Commander"), where he played, yep, a rebel soldier:

The son of a rebel continues his father's work, hiding out in the mountains with a band of men, wreaking havoc on the corrupt officials who continue to oppress the people. Using his unique code of honor, he metes out justice to all those who deserve punishment. But the life of a rebel is difficult, and he must eventually make a choice between his values and a chance for an easier life.

Hey, maybe he can show the rebels his movie to inspire them to come back to civilian life. Or perhaps he can torture them by making them watch it over and over again until they give in.

Or maybe the soldiers can do him one better. How about they end their rebellion, on the condition that Manny Pacquiao abandon his political aspirations as well? The deal sounds good to me.

(Also, we've been dealing with insurrections since after World War II, children are born into war-torn environs, people are fleeing their homes, and hunger and poverty are on the rise, and we can't do better than Special Agent Pacquiao and boxing tournaments? Really, that's our plan?
