What you do in the bedroom, apparently, is now pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao’s business. He believes you shouldn’t use condoms or other contraceptives when you have sex. Taking the Catholic Church position opposite the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill in Congress, the gentleman from Sarangani is currently on a PR blitz to drum up opposition to the measure.

“Kami, ‘pag sinabi namin, ‘O, huwag muna tayo ngayon, dahil ‘pag nag-make love tayo ngayon, eh, mabubuntis ka,’tiis lang,” he told Jessica Soho in an interview on GMA News TV Monday night. “Disiplina. Parang boxing din, nagdidisiplina ka sa sarili mo.”

It would be easier to take his abstinence screed if he didn’t have a reputation of being such a poon hound. Over the years, he has been linked to actresses such as Ara Mina and Krista Ranillo, and allegedly fathered a child out of wedlock. (At least we know that in that instance, he stayed true to his commitment not to use condoms.) His wife Jinkee even confirmed the boxer’s affair with Krista in a Yes! Magazine story last year.

Soon after his GMA interview, someone dug up a January article featuring Jinkee talking about her use of contraceptives: “After Queenie, sabi ko kay Manny, tama na ang apat. Hindi pa ako nagpa-tali, pero nagpi-pills ako (ngayon).”

Then again, anyone who has followed Pacquiao’s career closely knows that the man is nothing if not full of contradictions. Take this statement from the GMA interview, for example: “Ang solusyon para lutasin ang kahirapan ay ang magkaisa tayong lahat at sugpuin ang korupsyon. Kasi kung walang korupsyon, hindi maghihirap ‘yung mahihirap na tao.”

He said this a week after his last fight against Shane Mosley in Las Vegas, where he hung out with his political mentor Ilocos Sur governor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson, who in 2001 admitted to paying off former President Joseph Estrada with bribes from illegal gambling and kickbacks from tobacco excise taxes.
