Racela pa din. From a deadly, maverick shooting guard in college to steady, heady court general in the PBA.
i want to make a suggestion. on your next old school vs. new school please pit the tandem of alvin patrimonio and jerry codinera against the current purefoods/b-meg tandem of kerby raymundo and marc pingris. this will be an interesting match-up not only for b-meg fans but for basketball fans as well.
better yet, James and Kerby since there is a rivalry between the two. remember that Alvin and Jerry had their share of rivalry during the 1993 and 1994 seasons.
my issue with that comparison is that there's no dilemma: any Purefoods fan, or basketball fan, would go with Alvin/Jerry, for reasons both sentimental and achievements-wise.
Great suggestions Francis. I'll bring it up on our next podcast. It will be very interesting for me as I'm a B-Meg fan. Maybe we should reserve this when Jaemark will be with us sa podcast.
if this was uaap-based, i'd choose la over olsen kasi jun reyes was ateneo's powerhouse pg then and at one time olsen basically was like magnum membrere.
in the pba, i like racela pero la has a better career if you look at it.
it took a while before olsen could blossom (coney island days) plus la tenorio can be a scorer and an orchestrator.
i made a hard choice though since i chose la over olsen who also has intl experience as well as more titles under his belt.

Hmm toughie. LA Tenorio has been around in the league since 2006 (5 years). Racela got drafted in 1993. Let's just say you pit a +5 experience LA Tenorio over +5 experience Olsen Racela (1998), i'd say na parang hilaw pa si Racela while Tenorio is reaching his peak.
But then, when is Olsen's peak year? 1999 to 2001? (after 7-8 years of being drafted; then again that team had the Dannys and Olsen made them look good). Syd is right - part of Racela's longevity is being benched held for so long in Purefoods compared to LA reaching his peak 4-5 seasons since being drafted. The way LA is playing right now, he's averaging 38 minutes, while at Olsen's peak year, he has Boybitz and the plethora of supposed-Olsen successors to back him up.
Sure, LA has the athleticism, has clutch, has scoring prowess, but I'd like to think that Racela is a non-flashy kind of guy who will direct his team and make them look good. I'll probably pick him over LA Tenorio right now until probably LA "matures" like Racela (maybe 3-4 more years?) para mas complete package yung point-guard ko hehe.

I am a fan of both Olsen and LA. Outside of those two, my other all time faves were Johnny A, Jimmy A and Hector Calma.
I'd pick Olsen over LA.
LA is quicker, faster, a better ball handler, a better passer and has more offensive moves. But Olsen has the size, steady shooting and tough defense.
Olsen also developed into an excellent leader and has loads of heart. Heck when he retired, 1/3rd of the "heart" in the PBA left with him.
But man, no guard is playing at Tenorio's level these days.
If I were to put together an all-pro national team, it would easily be Jimmy A and LA at the point.

L.A. is not yet playing at his peak, that's the scary thing about him. And I'm not exaggerating at all. He's got lot of room for improvement under Tim Cone. With Alaska, the comparison obviously would be L.A. and Flying A. Now that's the status L.A. should strive for, L.A. is no doubt an MVP caliber player. If only Alaska made it to the semis, L.A. could have easily put BPC award in the bag.
And if Joe Devance continue on improving his game and Cyrus play what is expected from him (unfortunately this conference, a disappointment) then Alaska might just dominate once more. L.A - JDV - Skyrus could be Alaska's next triangle.
