Air 21 to send Baclao, Al-Hussaini, Guevarra to San Miguel, continues to ruin the PBA

Baclao, Al-Hussaini, and Guevarra

GMA News is reporting that the Air 21 Express is on the verge of trading Nonoy Baclao, Rabeh Al-Hussaini, and Rey Guevarra, the top three picks in the 2011 PBA draft, to San Miguel in exchange for the Beermen’s 2011 first round draft pick, Joseph Yeo, and the corpses of Danny Seigle and Mick Pennisi in yet another lopsided deal. Baclao led the PBA in shotblocks in the recently-concluded Philippine Cup, while Al-Hussaini led the Express in scoring and rebounding in the tournament.

That Air 21 would agree to yet another bullshit trade comes as no surprise, given the record of the Bert Lina franchise; just over the past three years, the team has given away marquee players such as Ranidel de Ocampo, Arwind Santos, Cyrus Baguio, Japeth Aguilar, and Alex Cabagnot, among many others. But as a lifelong PBA fan who defends the league fervently on this blog – something I do with little compensation, by the way – trades like this still make me want to hurl my laptop into the wall.

The deal, apparently, still doesn’t have the approval of the PBA Commissioner’s Office. Chito Salud has revised trades earlier this season, his first as a commissioner, to make them seem more even. But adding draft picks to the transaction would not solve anything, because everyone knows that Air 21, that godforsaken franchise, will only use those picks to draft – and later, sell – talent.

I don’t know if the commissioner has the balls to veto a trade that would benefit the almighty San Miguel Corporation, but I do know that these kinds of shady transactions have done irreparable damage to the league in the eyes of the fans, and it will continue to do so if the practice remains unabated.

about the trade. masyadong loopside.. maganda ang future ng 3 un. para lang ipalit sa 2 matanda na.

really disgusting. tapos when you read Alvarez's write-up in the PBA 2011 annual, lalo ka maiinis. "master trader" wtf.

i wish there was a way we could "vote off" a franchise, ala survivor.

"val sotto" will be eating his words if this trade does push through.

GARAPALAN MAXIMUS.

So utterly blatant .... if it ever gets approved - even with multiple draft picks added.

The funny thing is, one FULLY expects Seigle to somehow play again really soon for SMB or one of the sister-teams.

Lito Alvarez would have been very proud ..... same as Danding - the original Pacman.

gRABEH Al-Hussaini and Nonoy BLOCKlao to SMB for Yeo, Seigle, and Pennisi. You've got to be kidding me. Never mind Guevarra.

I feel bad for Seigle. He'd fought a lot of wars for the beermen (often struggling on a gimpy leg at that), but he came through for them time and again. I guess they won't honor him the way they did Olsen. Is Lakay going to be next.

Yes, SMB might get a lot stronger with the Blue Boy Bigs ... but somehow, this doesn't feel right. Never mind the blatant lopsidedness of this trade proposal, but what about that catchy tagline ...

Some of us maybe a PF fan, some of us maybe a BGK fan, even the OPEN-EYED SMB fan, an Alaska Fan, TNT fan and even an AIR21 fan or used to be a RedBull fan pero di natin maitatatwa (dun sa mga di nagbubulagbulagan sa mga ganitong issues) are seeing these dirty tricks that were blatantly done by RICHER & GREEDY TEAMS season after season after season after season at minsan nga every conference pa eh.

I don't like what PACMAN-like teams are doing in the PBA pero mas nakakainit ng ulo yung mga team na GINAGAWANG MILKING COW ang PBA, parang prosti benta ng benta ng mga players walang delicadeza parang ayaw manalo ng championship.

I am not pertaining on these "rumored trade" but those trades that they undertake conferences before.

Imo kasi, it's a bit fair enough (deal) pero siyempre may slight advantage ang SMB having a younger bigmen on their camp (Rabeh & Noy). On the other hand I believe that Seigle and Mick can still provide a lot on AIR21 while YEO is the obvious great addition for AIR21. Kaya lang if AIR21 trade away Baclao & Rabeh at the same time they are also trading away their future.

But since the trade wasn't approve, ngayon ang tanong ano kaya ang susunod na hakbang ng SMB they look so desperate on axing all their aging stars.
#6 Swoosh on 2011-02-25 06:35 (Reply)
Lopsided trades again. we are not surprised at all. We saw this coming and its been predicted. Air 21 sells talented young guys to richer franchise, they are really destroying this league. The better trade match put DonDon Hontiveros, Danny Ildefonso, Danny Seigle, Joseph Yeo, Pennissi in exchange for Baclao, Al-Hussaini, Gatumbato, Guevarra
#7 John on 2011-02-25 08:10 (Reply)
This Air21 just like Redbull will have their team send to "KANKUNGAN". They are mocking the PBA face to face. They are really in the business of selling their franchise player.

#8 psi on 2011-02-25 08:32 (Reply)
this is stupid. if this is the case then you might as well put all the none san miguel and MVP teams(except alaska) in the developmental league.

another reason not to follow this stupid league.

Sa kanila maganda tignan kc PBA is still a business but in a basketball stand point its making a mockery of the league on what they are doing. its really embarrassing just ashamed meron pala dito ganyan. Di na nga tyo makahabol sa our Asian neighbors sa basketball tapos ganyan pa, 1st pay for play league tapos ganyan. ano ba yan

I know we talked about SMB trying to get younger pero di naman garapal tulad nito. If they traded away arwind, seigle, and yeo baka pwede pa. i hope the commish does something.if he vetoes this deal. he will forever have my respect.

I can understand why the Barako Bull Franchise trades their players left and right. Its the only way they could stay in the PBA, for they are in huge financial dilemma. but with the Bert Lina Franchise??? Is this the new way of generating profits???

i hope the commish rejects this trade. and by that, i don't mean that he just adds more players in the deal, but to entirely veto it. this is just pathetic.disgusting even. if this trade pushes through, it will be another hit in the league's credibility.

and it goes beyond that.

the PBA is the premier bball league in the country, and it is seen as the face of PH basketball. if the league's image is tainted, the sport suffers with it.i'm sure football fans and bandwagoners (mostly the latter) will be all over this issue and will continue their non-stop bashing of the sport.

to be fair though, I think Joseph Yeo deserves to be on a team where he can play more minutes.

He'd be a high scorer and a significant contributor on other teams coming off the bench. (just not Ginebra because, c'mon, Ginebra needs LESS guards)
#22.1 yebah on 2011-02-28 10:26 (Reply)
add to that, they have crocodile 47 there so joseph would most likely be yeolling from the bench every game when he's in that team. ha ha ha.

#24 Polo on 2011-02-28 10:56 (Reply)
Remember during our drinking session at your resto, when we said that SMB was missing an athletic frontline? Well, adding Baclao sure solves that.

I think for the trade to "seem more fair" SMB doesn't go for all 3. Leave Rabeh and add another pick or Leave Baclao and add someone like Denok.

They definitely need to give up someone useful for this trade to "seem fair".
