Nice article here. I remember the old Red Bull Thunder - that was a great team. I wish the best to all the Barako Bull players.
I think Ginebra should get Marlou for 1 season and let him retire as a gin king. After all ginebra fans love him and he brought championship to ginebra.
agree. the question is, who gets to wear #13: Aquino or Helterbrand hehe.
Jaemark, if I may add, all of George Chua's other businesses have also folded up like Agfa Films, Polaroid Cameras, Dreyer's Ice Cream and Don Henrico's Restaurant.
I also read in the Bulletin that some of the Barako players were caught off-guard by the decision of the team to go on leave.
Right now, these players are uncertain of their future.

sir, with all due respect, sabi ata sa text ni mr. chua e next conference lang naman maglalaro ang Gilas.. they will be back daw sa 3rd conference.. paki correct lang po..
thanks!
thanks!
Yeah its about time.. They should have done that way way back, when they are giving away their marquee players to teams in exchange for cash... Also include AIR 21.. both of them are giving PBA bad bad bad reputation...
Oh wait.... JOSEPH UICHICO???? (Read the article Manila Standard again.)
A sign of things to come for other cash-strapped and/or mediocre teams?
A good number of us may think of expansion to make the PBA more exciting and interesting, pero aanhin ba ang expansion kung nalulugi ang ibang mga established teams? Everybody's feeling the pinch, though, as recession is still very much a buzzword worldwide.
I think the PBA would do good to field a lean and mean lineup of 7 or 8, maybe even just 6 teams. Hopefully this won't lead to the PBA becoming even more of a "San Miguel league" (but it might), but let's face it, this seems to be the most feasible option for the PBA's future. The PBA was really exciting in my grade school days, nung 6-8 pa ang teams. Teams were well-stacked with talent, and anyone could be competitive anytime, even the then-expansion Pepsi and Swift teams after just about a year. Right now, to be very honest, it seems watered down - a league where, with all due respect, the likes of Mark Andaya, Gilbert Lao and Ervin Sotto still have PBA jobs, just because they're big.
Still, kawawa naman ang mga players ng Barako Bull. Di na daw sumusuweldo yung mga iba since November, and Mr. Chua still uses "positive scripting" by saying his decision is patriotic in nature? People weren't born yesterday.

ML Kuwarta Padala of Cebu, which is a team from the Liga Pilipinas, has long expressed its desire to enter the PBA as an expansion team.
The PBA board and team owners may tackle the expansion plans of the league in their meeting tomorrow.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. But honestly I doubt it. It would be best IMHO not to expand, and maybe even contract further to 7 or 8. The drawback, of course, is less jobs for fringe players (hopefully they've learned from the examples of the late Teddy Alfarero and Alex Clarino, et al., casualties of the six-team PBA due to a lack of PBA jobs in those days), but this would inevitably lead to better basketball and maybe a renewed focus on rivalries and intensity. Even if the PBA's style of play was quite unsophisticated in the '80s (read: larong buko), at least you saw people playing their hearts out.
must i clarify that barako bull has given the salaries already to people. And excuse me, i believe that Mr. Chua's decision was patriotic. Hello. Right you just said that the players are not receiving their salaries? Tapos, they players are complaining diba? Eh di, Mr. Chua did the right choice by releasing everyone so that they can get into better teams with higher paying salaries. So, how is that not something positive? And really, if these players are really good, then others teams will not miss the chance to get them. They will not be "kawawa" as you all think. If they are not chosen, then that means they need more practice. Obviously it's a sign for them to exert extra effort so that they can be better athletes.
