Wednesday bullets, starring Jeron Teng, Jerry Codiñera, Younghusbands and Dalaw

Haven’t done this in a while, but before we get to the bullets, I enjoyed this comment from reader Jowana Bueser last week:

Have you seen Kris Aquino's Dalaw? Just bothered with Diether Ocampo's role as her husband. Seems like potshots against James Yap. He's the almost spineless, not so good with English husband who earns less than his better-educated wife.

Okaay. On to the bullets:

  • This is old news, but in case you missed it: High school junior Jeron Teng scored 104 points in a game for Xavier last week in the Tiong Lian basketball league. I still think it’s funny that both Jeron and his brother, UST hotshot Jeric Teng, are children of Alvin Teng, who was more known as a banger and a blue-collar guy; if the kids didn’t look so much like their father, you’d suspect there was some hanky-panky there involving Teng’s ex-teammates Samboy Lim and Allan Caidic.

  • Jerry Codiñera is the new coach of his alma mater, the University of the East Red Warriors. ‘The Defense Minister’ spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the UP Fighting Maroons. Prior to that, he had a stint as head coach of TeleTech in the Philippine Basketball League, where he didn’t do too badly.

  • The Younghusbands might end up playing for a club team in Indonesia. Wannabe Youngwives there rejoice.

They’ve also started up a new football academy, which unfortunately wouldn’t make you look like models.

  • A few months ago, I was speaking to veteran sports journalist Bong Pedralvez, a rabid football fan, and we ended up talking about the issues surrounding the Philippine Football Federation. I asked him what made the football organization different from any other national sports association wracked by infighting. “In football,” he said, “there’s a lot of money.”

And boy, the cash is just flowing in. Aside from the assistance the International Football Federation (Fifa) already provides, and the aid that the German Football Association (DFB) also committed, three more countries, this time from the Middle East, are pouring in funds for local football.

With embattled former PFF president Mari Martinez out of the picture, sufficient funding, and renewed interest from local sports fans, there really are no more excuses for Philippine football, right?

  • Asian Games silver medal-winning boxer Annie Albania is AWOL.

  • Smart Gilas (remember them?) coach Rajko Toroman wants them to keep playing in the PBA to toughen them up. He also wants PBA players committed to his team for a longer period of time. Somewhere out there, Yeng Guiao must be yukking it up. I’d ask Noli Eala about it on Twitter, but we’re not in good terms right now.

It's a good thing that Jerry would coach my beloved Warriors.

You should say sorry to Mr. Noli Eala, malay mo maging bestfriends kayo at tuluyang makalimot dun sa twitter catfight... haha...

Jerry should not coach the warriors instead he should play. I can't remember the last time that UE have a dominant bigman. This is the main reason why James Yap and company was spoiled by Ateneo.

fyi lang - matagal na iyong football academy ng mga younghusbands

i still remember the break out game of alvin teng back when he was still an unknown bench entity of san miguel beer. he even made a tomahawk dunk in a fastbreak play which made basketball pundits notice him all the more :)

Jaemark: Give us the scoop on Ray Ray Parks' constant flip-flopping between Georgia Tech (where he'll play against obviously superior level of competition under an obviously superior level of coaching, ang become a better player down the road) versus NU (i mean, $$$eriously? What$$$ the deal here?).

There must be more to this than meets the eye!

as mentioned before, bobby sr. is sick, that's why ray ray chose NU, for treatment money. sa US NCAA, walang pera dun.

hahaha i don't think mr eala will like talking to you anytime soon, and it's about time Toroman realizes that he needs the PBA a lot more than what other SBP people used to think. It was just a matter when everyone will realize it will take a lot more than seasoned amateurs to do something significant for the national team. Heck even pros can't do it right. Let's just hope everyone in Philippine basketball will finally get on the same page.
