SBP executive director Noli Eala gets into a stupid Twitter exchange with a stupid blogger

Ok, I’m the stupid blogger I mention in the title, and admittedly, most (but not all) of the stupidity of the said exchange came from my end. I’m really not all that comfortable writing about this, but this is the kind of crap I write about anyway, and it’d be weird if I didn’t write about it, so why not.

It all started innocently enough with this tweet from Noli Eala:

Noli Eala is not petty

I decided to have a little fun with it and posted this:

Weh. Di nga?

Then things escalated quickly. He replied. I took a shot. He hit back. I responded. It got heated. And then just like that, it was all over.

I was largely amused by the whole thing. Part of me can’t believe that he was wasting his time replying to me, which I thought was HILARIOUS. After all, I run a blog during my downtime from work; this whole endeavor is really just an excuse for me to think and write about the most stupid things, like how Allan Gregorio is like Val Sotto without the Mr. Suave stache.

He, on the other hand, runs the national basketball federation, in charge of the day-to-day coordination of all the programs involving the country’s favorite sport. It’s a very important job. If I were in his place, I think I’d be smart enough – despite all my stupidity – not to bother wasting my time responding to me.

Which brings me to the favorite part of our exchange: Ironically, all this crap started after he tweeted that he was not petty, and he was “better than that.” I suppose there’s no better way to prove that you’re not petty than by getting into a stupid fight on Twitter.

Well said sir, well said.

I did catch the catfight yesterday. It was hillarious, to say the least!

BTW: I like the fact that Noli Eala's profile pic looks like an egg...

ahahha. I agree. masabi lang na matalinong tao, nakalimutan nyang magpakatalino. No offense sir jaemark, dapat di ka nya patulan. Sa dami ng dapat nyang gawin for the program, inuna nya pang magtweet sa yo. ahahaha

"Ok, I’m the stupid blogger "

I agree. Well said Jaemark Tordesillas.

and would I believe the statement of a stupid???
If I do so, I would be worse than a stupid!

Jaemark Tordesillas - you're one of the parasites this society should get rid of! It's very unfortunate that guys like you exist.

i was as curious to know as anyone if noli eala still has gripes against the pba by saying on twitter that the pba can do no good because the latter doesnt play international ballgame.

it sounds na meron kc eh?

sorry jaemark for dragging you into this!

dammit, ngayon ay envy you na talaga.

pissing off a former PBA commish is awesome!

Jae Mark you did not post your tweet (personal attack) to Noli E which made him pissed off, impartial report ang ginawa mo kasi playing safe ka? Na block kayo tuloy, But Idol pa rin kita despite of above.

FireQuinito, I'm a big fan of your site! But I think that was too personal. Those issues (Love letters and being disbarred) affected his family so it's understandable that he became petty and replied to those tweets. I'm all for criticizing sports figures and and good-natured fun but I think those were a bit off. Can't deny that I kinda had fun with the exchange too though. Peace out!
#11.1.2.1 nil on 2010-10-07 11:43 (Reply)
c'mon man, writing those letters was his own doing. It's not hitting below the belt coz its the truth.... and btw, his love letter is damn funny! and landmark case na rin for legal ethics! hahah
#12 Jayr on 2010-10-06 18:26 (Reply)
I also saw the epic "tweet war' last night. It was hot, but at the same time, helluva fun! :D

Quite simple. Noli Eala was a public figure. And Mr. Jaemark is just a blogger, to say the least.

We should have known who must be the person that must have acted better.
#13 theroadmix on 2010-10-06 19:55 (Reply)
You make so much sense. :)) [/sarcasm off]

I would've said that you go out of your way just to annoy people. But I can't say that because you engage in such endeavor only during your down time. On the other hand, clearly some people go out of their way just to be stupid. :))
#14 The Derby Ace King on 2010-10-06 22:16 (Reply)
Noli Eala, is a jerk, the only thing he got is a BIG MOUTH full of $#!+. Well I guess he doesn't need to use his mouth just to prove my point.
#15 Rodolfo Obniala on 2010-10-06 23:10 (Reply)
I think I share the same sentiment with most of the guys who commented here. The love letters part was fine, the living your own life part was still ok since all journalists get that kind of criticism. But not all disbarred lawyers get reminded of their disbarment. So FireQuinito took the first real shot. LMAO.

#17 ginkings30 on 2010-10-07 00:36 (Reply)
I was surprised with the twitter fight. Kampi ako syo on this one firequinito. You simply reacted to a tweet by Noli Eala then things ended up like this.

Hindi naman sa hindi ka nya dapat patulan, pero the thing is, he allowed you to follow him. That actually means he is giving you the right to read his tweets and react to those. Kung ayaw nya ng ganun, he could have remove you or block you in the first place. You've been following him for the longest time. Pero what did he do? Wala!!! And I'm sure he is aware of all the bad but truthful things you wrote about him in your blog, so those things that you did were somewhat expected already from the very first day you followed him. :-)

Actually, I was also thinking of the possibility that he was not aware that you were following him already. But that doesn't excuse him from being responsible for his own twitter account.

In short, this could have been avoided if he was responsible enough to use twitter. :-)
#18 commentor on 2010-10-07 00:45 (Reply)
Come on guys, we all know who's wrong here. It's not Noli Eala. This site's author threw the first low blow.
#18.1 ginkings30 on 2010-10-07 01:06 (Reply)
dude, anong low blow sa "Weh. Di nga?" na RT ni firequinito? if you look at it, this twitter fight really started when Noli Eala "@FireQuinito oh the great pious infallible firequinto follows me pala. Lol." which was a sign na napikon na agad si Eala sa three word RT ni firequinito. A three letter word made him react that way.

Maybe you are looking at it na firequinito has been badmouthing Eala for a long time in his blog, but it is his freaking right to say what is true and what he thinks about it and wala naman sya sinabi na any false accusations about him. So anong mali nya dun?

in every war there are rules to follow and there are boundaries to observe. if you cant recognize that fact, then you have to keep your mouth shut!

what jaemark did is to piss eala. what exactly was he wanting to do when he did his first tweet??> he is trying to provoke eala. and for what gain??? for him to get attention??? for hte simple reason of annoying a former PBA commish?

so what's the point of being on Jaemark's side on this?what's the point of defending him on this? are we trying to create a legion of unthinking followers?

c'mon, jaemark. this is not the first time you brought up the disbarment issue against eala. for what cause?

is this within the ethical guidelines that you as a person should embody?

arent you aware that you are destroying other people's lives because of this?

c'mon man, shut up!!! SHUT UP!

The "love letters" tweet onwards were foul, Sir. But of course I know that you know that already.

That's the problem when one commits major, major transgressions, it can haunt him/her forever. Some people will while some more sensible people won't go that low to hit back. Eala's got to live with it.

No, I am not in any way connected with the ex PBA commish.

Have a good one.
#20.1 ginkings30 on 2010-10-07 13:01 (Reply)
yup.. you are right, Eala's got to live with it... Being a public figure, everything that he does is closely monitored by critics, bloggers, writers and even basketball fans. Because of the scandal that he did (love letters etc.. ), he will have to live with these kinds of people criticizing him for doing such act. And that's the price of being a public figure, same goes with artists, politicians and even the president himself.

If he doesn't want to be criticized, then he shouldn't have been part of the PBA or SBP and he should have live a normal life.

#20.1.1 jaemarkisaparasite on 2010-10-07 13:41 (Reply)
mali ka ba??? eto...

yes, mr. eala should not expect that he wont be criticized.

but what kind of criticism is jaemark throwing at him? he should be criticized on the grounds of his performance as an SBP official..

if you are criticizing on the purpose of correcting what was done wrong, then it is GOOD!!

but if you are throwing criticisms for the purpose of pissing, annoying, pulling a person down, then that is what you call CRAB MENTALITY.

Eala practically opened himself to ridicule. He's at the mercy of everyone including and most especially, Mr. Tordesillas.

Self restraint and not hitting below the belt is really at the discretion of Mr. Tordesillas.

(Unfortunately), in a society where tour guides crash Cathedrals to make their point and students interrupting the President's address to voice out their sentiments, seems that free speech is at its damaging best.

Eala's (landmark?) case is already part of classroom discussions in law school. It's really embarrasing to say the least and I wouldn't want to rub it in the guy's face any further.

Personally, it's not in my character to go for a low blow. But I'm not Mr. Tordesillas.

Well, I've been reading stuff on this site for quite a while now. I've enjoyed a lot of the articles on here. A great read most of the time.

But I have to say, I didn't quite like the things that were said during the so-called twitter war (especially on your end). Eala has been in some dubious and sleazy episodes in his past, but you don't need to throw it in his face. Overkill na, and you rubbing it in, makes it a low-blow of sorts.

It's like heckling Barako Bull. Doormats don't need further insult, we wipe our feet on them daily. Enough na yon. lol

That said, I'll still keep reading here. Just dial down the smart-alecy attitude once in a while. Hehehe

No feelings for Eala.Besides, everything said is the
truth. And he is not petty???!!! Ha,ha.He is ready to
destroy anyone, for whome he thinks is on his way.
His sleazy episodes are not in the past, they are and
always will be there. He managed to develop The Club
of Eala haters.
And it's not enough na yon.lol! As we all know the
defending words are always coming from himself or
the dirty squad tha depend on him.

i'm a big fan of your blog j pero after ko ianalyze yun mga sinabi ko ke noli eala parang mali ka yata. nagsuffer na yun tao for what he did. mahirap magaral ng law at pumasa sa bar, for that to be taken away from you just like that masakit yon, you don't have to rub it in his face. and those love letters, sometimes we do those things (or we a lot other stupid stuffs in the name of love) pag in love tayo. ganon siya katindi magmahal e

FireQuinito, I frequent your blog and I get entertained--even informed--with what you write. But this one is quite low. I agree with the others' sentiments here, try to stick to the issues. Keep the potshots to a minimum. I'm not saying Mr Eala doesn't deserve all these things, but please try not to be too low, too petty. You're better than that ;-)
#27 rehaz on 2010-10-10 07:15 (Reply)
hi jaemark... medyo inabangan ko rin ung "twitter war" nyo... pero just to play the devils advocate as many have already... pero how can we be sure that noli eala was pissed? he might have been fooling around with jae as well... then there's the question of who made the first "low blow"? if u analyze, jae's 1st tweet wasn't it... and noli's reply wasn't also... jae's 2nd tweet, for me, is the one below the belt... and last, why criticize Noli for engaging in a twitter war with jae? yes he has lots of things to do as SBP head... pero does that mean he can't try to create a witty remark to battle jae's? is he working 24/7 na nde na sya pwde umihi kasi bka gumuho ang SBP program? if we should criticize him for wasting time, its not because he engaged in a twitter war, its because he has a twitter account... pero since almost everyone has, even the president of the US and P-Noy as well... we can't judge... un lang... jaemark continue to write cool bball blogs... especially purefoods/llamados related... for me, u r d pinoy bill simmons... kelan ang libro mo? hehe

Dude, this is becoming really funny. At least, Eala's squad is busy with blogging here in his defense. They all "like this blog", BUT.......HAHAHAHA.
Things are simple. If u are a public figure,u are NOT
allowed to behave like he does. This is his way of talking with people in private, and now others had oportunity to see it in public. It's a shame he is still in
SBP.Why would anyone forgot his sleazy episodes if his own parents didn't.Who can trust the guy who sold his kids for his selfious reasons. He has to understand that the world doesn't exist for him and because of him.

i frequent your blog, and i always find it funny and informative. but dude, man up! sure, noli eala is a jerk and an a-hole, but there' s a time and place for everything...including hirits and biting remarks. your tweets to him (starting from the second one) were below the belt, and no amount of truth would justify what you did. he was trying to be witty in his first remark, but it was you who obviously got rattled and pikon. ganyan kasi ginagawa ng mga pikon diba, just flail away and hope na may tamaan na masakit. eala's a jerk and an asshole...by those admittedly stupid tweets of yours, you're no different.

just man up and apologize, and continue to make witty, but not below-the-belt, criticisms of eala and other officials.
