Monday bullets, starring Rio Locsin, Cesca Litton, Dynamite Danny Seigle, Topex Robinson’s return, and even more James-Kris

It was beer and pizza night for me and my buddies this weekend, watching World Cup quarterfinal matches with a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie thrown in for good measure. I was a bit bummed out by Argentina’s loss, because I was endlessly fascinated by Diego Maradona at the sidelines acting all crazy. He actually reminded me of Jawo out there. I kept waiting for him to put his overweight son Dudut Maradona into the game, to the absolute horror of the Argentine fans. Never happened though.

Anyway, lots of good stuff to read for this Monday afternoon, to start the week right:
  • Nice article in the Staten Island local news about a former Wagner State standout by the name of Dan Seigle, who has since gone on to stardom as the PBA’s Dynamite Danny. [H/T @Rafeboogs]

  • Topex Robinson is back, according to Patricia Hizon on Yahoo. Not sure how he fits in with Alaska’s style of play, but the Aces desperately need ballhandling help for LA Tenorio. Also funny: the comments thread in the article has been hijacked by people talking about Patricia’s gum-chewing habits while in church.

  • The Patay ang Butiki blog is alive, coming out with a two-part piece on the best performances in the ongoing PBA Fiesta Conference (here’s part 1 and part 2). It would be interesting if they ever write about the reason they’ve been away for so long.

  • Reuters has named the two foreign private equity firms that are looking into buying San Miguel Pure Foods: Carlyle and CVC. According to the story, bankers advising potential buyers are saying that the whole company might be sold.

  • FHM came out with a list of the prettiest PBA wives and girlfriends. My all-time favorite PBA wife is still Rio Locsin, who married Padim Israel. Actually, I think she’s my favorite Pinay sexy star of all time; there’s a reason why Hotdog namechecks her in “Langit na Naman.” She was hot and hilarious in Ishmael Bernal’s classic comedy Salawahan.

I love the seeming randomness of all these PBA player-sexy star hookups, like Chris Pacana and Paloma. I always thought the most random hookup was Lowell Briones and Rita Magdalena… until I found out that Paeng Santos was the father of Via Veloso’s kid. Now that’s random.

  • While we’re on the topic, last month UNO Magazine posted previously unreleased photos of the lovely PBA courtside reporter, Cesca Litton, from a shoot last year.

  • And finally, more updates on the Kris Aquino-James Yap front: “James Yap admits he’s wooing Kris Aquino again,” reports ABS-CBN, while Yahoo has some good news, with “Kris still open to reconciling with James”. Okay then.

corny naman yung sa patay ang butiki. walang james yap! lol
#1.1 no namer on 2010-07-06 09:41 (Reply)
it's all about efficiency. james yap has similar performances (scoring-wise, at least), but the guys on the list were able to get their numbers on less shots, and less minutes. their negative stats (fouls, to's, missed shots) are less as well...

moving on to a different topic, i just read the article about d.seigle. it says there that he did just fine, and i have to agree. but i think danny could have done MUCH better. he's the grant hill of the pba- has enormous talent, but injuries prevented him from making the best out of it. i could only imagine what could have been if he was playing at his peek, and not rehabilitating from injuries...

sineryoso mo naman yung comment ko. lol

ayaw mo ke penny hardaway? lol
#1.1.1.1 no namer on 2010-07-06 12:03 (Reply)
did i? hehe. mejo over-the-top nga ata yung response ko. lol...

i prefer grant hill over penny hardaway. hill is a better player overall. he was posting monster numbers before the injuries slowed him down... and i just used him narin for comparison purposes. kasi pareho cla ni d.siegle na labeled as "the next great player" (si penny rin pala, although in a lesser extent). and both players were also able to comeback and contribute to their teams after recovering from their injuries. penny wasn't able to do much after his injury (i think...)...
#1.1.1.1.1 The Legendary Skyflakes25 on 2010-07-06 13:10 (Reply)
penny and grant were both labeled as the next jordan. grant's injury may have been due to fila. lol

so much for that. d.s. could have been greater, and so is andy, if they were not riddled with injury. siguro, sa lifestyle at conditioning at work ethic nila. tignan mo si cap alvin patrimonio.

sorry dude. nagulat rin nga ako na james yap didn't make the list. he does pretty well according to game score, though. wala lang nung one big game that makes it to the list.
#1.2.1 The Legendary Skyflakes25 on 2010-07-07 19:15 (Reply)
lol wala yun. although his game vs smb last friday might have qualified him. siempre, kanya kanyang trip naman yun eh. blog mo yun, prerogative mo kung sino ang ilalagay mo.
#1.2.1.1 j_myxx | Patay Ang Butiki on 2010-07-07 21:47 (Reply)
actually, it wasnt even my prerogative since i decided to go by game score. haha. i really wanted to add get doug kramer's game against ginebra up there, kaso kahit yun hindi umabot.

there were a few other performances that hit the 20 mark in game score. eric menk, kramer, mike cortez, joe devance, alex cabagnot and arwind santos all had worthy games. james i think had an 18 in his best game.
#1.2.1.1.1 The Legendary Skyflakes25 on 2010-07-07 23:50 (Reply)
di naman. naka 28 sya (including 6 3-pters).

oo nga, dapat isinama mo din yung ke doug. kahit papaano, pumutok ang laro nun.

yun nga lang, on a very bad team. lol
#1.2.1.1.1.1 j_myxx | Patay Ang Butiki on 2010-07-09 18:14 (Reply)
you mean he scored 28 points. game score is a different stat, similar to PER. its a bit different, and james didn't reach 20 GmSc in any of his games.

was surprised he didnt.he actually had some pretty good games.

I almost feel happy for the Aces now that they're finally getting help in the backcourt for L.A. He deserves to get that back-up that could provide quality minutes for them.

"until I found out that Paeng Santos was the father of Via Veloso’s kid"

well, i still think the tony harris-ilonah jean relationship should be number one, then steve watson-debbie miller should be number two, and number three should be rob wainwright-lj moreno.
#3.1 jaemark on 2010-07-06 18:30 (Reply)
Nah, the import-sexy star relationships aren't really random... the import's usually famous enough. But when the benchwarmers start getting in on the action? That's pretty random.

I'd rank it this way:

1. Paeng Santos-Via Veloso - You've really got to know your PBA *and* your softcore Pinoy flicks to know who both these guys are.

2. Lowell Briones and Rita Magdalena

3. Rob Duat and Daisy Reyes

as always, wonderful post jaemark, you never fails to amaze us with your very colorful posts. suggestion lang, sana next time pag may mga link ka sa mga sinusulat mo, sana yung mgoopen na lang sya sa new window or tab.medyo hassle kc kung lagi pa klngan mgback everytime may icclick na link. anyway, all in all, job well done and keep up the good work !
#4.1 The Legendary Skyflakes25 on 2010-07-07 14:10 (Reply)
napakadali lang ang solution niyan.

kung firefox o chrome ang gamit mo, press down ang CTRL tapos click mo yung link. presto! new tab or window ka.

pag IE naman gamit mo, yung SHIFT key naman ang ihold mo.
#4.2 jaemark on 2010-07-07 14:11 (Reply)
yeah, i'm too lazy to do that. why not just use the middle button on the mouse (or CTRL+Click) like the rest of us, to open in a new tab?

A quick google search of my mom's name led me to this page.

Thank you for your kind words about my mom (Rio Locsin)!
