Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio to Fire Quinito: “We can be friends!”

Sometimes, I forget that this blog isn’t even a year old, and already so many weird things have happened. Perhaps the biggest highlight came last Wednesday night, when Coach Ryan Gregorio, mere minutes after leading his Purefoods squad to a sweep over Alaska in the Philippine Cup finals, took a moment to record a message to this blog, courtesy of the always-awesome Patricia Hizon.

“Well, thank you for lighting up my emotions. I do appreciate you, in spite of, because I know you’re an avid Purefoods supporter, and you are as frustrated and disappointed as I am when I was losing. But you had the only time to articulate it. But we can be friends! You can be an ally! And I get a three-year reprieve, thank you very much! I’ll invite you over to my practices, and let’s see how we can get things done, and probably we can work together. Thank you very much!”

My original post about the wager on Coach Ryan generated – by far – the most enthusiastic response to any single topic on this site. Even on Twitter, over the course of the series, everyone kept asking me about the bet. It made watching my favorite team even more fun for me, and I hope it did the same for everyone else.

All the credit in the world should go to Coach Ryan for being a great sport. People keep asking me if I am going to keep my promise, well, of course I am. At this point, it’s not like it’s going to be tough; he has led Purefoods to two Philippine Cup titles and three Philippine Cup finals appearances over the last five years. The man will go down in the PBA record books as a winner. I’m sure all other Purefoods fans out there feel the same way.

An interview with Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio
It was an interesting night, to say the least. After all, it’s not every day that one gets to hang out and shoot the breeze with the head coach of one’s favorite sports teams. I took advantage of the situation by conducting a no-holds-barred interview wit

RG has now won three championships:

a) The first during the Governor's Cup in 2002 when the Purefoods TJ Hotdogs won against it against Alaska Milk,4-3. RG replaced Eric Altamirano, who became an assistant coach of the RP Team. The 2002 Winter Olympics was held at Salt Lake City,Utah in the United States.

b) The second one was during the Philippine Cup in 2006 when he led the Purefoods Chunkee Hotdogs against the Red Bull Barako, 4-2. It was also the same year wherein the 2006 Winter Olympics was held at Turin, Italy

c)The third one was during the Philippine Cup in 2010 when he led the Purefoods Tender juicy Giants against the Alaska via a historic sweep, 4-0. It was also the same year wherein the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at Vancouver,Canada.

Take it from Coach Ryan,"“We will definitely not wait for another four years, another winter Olympics to win another championship. Four years are far in between. We’ll continue to strive hard. We’ll try to be the best again (in the next conference)”

Go for it Coach!!!! Go Purefoods!!!
#10.1 Legendary Skyflakes25 on 2010-03-07 00:41 (Reply)
dapat kasi every SEAG, Summer, Winter Olympic year para di masyadong matagal. lol

RG has definitely arrived as a PBA coach!!!!
#12 Joey_Escalera on 2010-03-07 01:54 (Reply)
Let's celebrate this Purefoods championship first before the next conference starts. Go Purefoods!!!!
#13 Joey_Escalera on 2010-03-07 02:05 (Reply)
"Betting on Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio" is good article for RG for it is a chance to redeem himself as PF coach for people deserve a second chance ( for RG - it has been multiple chances already!!!LOL) in life.

Jaemark, I posted this when you made your wager against RG. The best result of the article is that Purefoods won a championship.
#14 lastboyonearth on 2010-03-08 16:03 (Reply)
Maybe we should start moving to get you to replace Quinito. Hahahah I don't think any coach has ever shown a media guy, much less Quinito, as much love. :D

That being said, you do have to kiss a$$ for the next foreseeable eternity. :P

WTG. :)
#15 chizman on 2010-03-14 05:32 (Reply)
coach rg is now the winningest coach in the purefoods franchise (in terms of championships won) yung ibang coaches ng pfoods nananalo pag unang pasok sa team (except dalupan)
#16 Legendary Skyflakes25 on 2010-03-14 16:42 (Reply)
but coach baby dalupan, himself a legendary, has something that other former Purefoods coaches had: he gave the team its first championship! that can't be taken away from the team's history. lol
