About the author

Who *are* you?

My name is Jaemark Tordecilla. I've been writing on the Internet for about 10 years now, and I have been paid for it occasionally.

I also recently joined the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism in May 2009, where I do a mix of technology and reporting (but, oddly enough, not technology reporting). This would be a good opportunity to point out that the views expressed on this site are strictly my own and do not reflect those of the PCIJ.

Prior to that I was an IT manager in an American company based in the Philippines, a graduate student at UP Diliman, a product development manager/web development manager/content producer for the Internet arm of a large Philippine television network, an editor for a defunct online youth magazine, and a computer science student at UP Los Banos.

Did you ever do any sportswriting?

Well, it's not really sportswriting, but a few years back I wrote a bunch of snarky columns for Peyups.com about the UP Fighting Maroons. Reading them back, I cringe because they were pretty mean-spirited (not good), although I still laugh for lines like this:

[Ateneo board representative] Jun-jun Capistrano tells us about the preparations of his school for the UAAP, and tells us that it's the school they choose, and that they rock, and that everyone else sucks. Mr. Capistrano also announces that they are requiring their students to attend their games against UE, FEU, Adamson, and NU as part of their "immersion" program.

You know the burning pits in hell are really, really hot, right?

Yeah, I heard.

Anything else we need to know?

Well, I don't know about needing to know anything, but I should probably mention that I root for the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants in the PBA, and I went to Letran and UP, so I cheer for the Knights in the NCAA and the Fighting Maroons in the UAAP. So you'll probably hear a lot about these teams from me, but I'll try my best to keep everything balanced.

Where can we reach you?

You can try leaving a comment, or better yet, write me a note at j@firequinito.com

I appreciate your frank inputs ,i may have sound like a broken record coz i know a lot are asking why used a respected sportswriter's name i know we have a press freedom but at times we must also practice responsible journalism..I know Quinito is not complaining ,in fact its also an added publicity to him..as they say good or bad it's still a publicity but it still leaves a bad taste in the mouth ..anyway more power to you..

I just wanna know if you know why mr. Joaquin Henson intended to be called Quinito instead of using his original nickname Jake?

Hi Sir!

As soon as I entered your site, I became a fan right away. I think that the name of the site is very cool. However, If I may suggest, I believe you should include Chino Trinidad's name as well. If you think that Quinito Henson is a really bad analyst/columnist/commentator, well you're in for a treat with Chino Trinidad. I remember this one instance when he commented on a hustle play by Leon Powe in the Lakers-Celtics 2008 Finals, he said: "Ayan po si Leon Powe! Powe! Lagyan nyo ng R sa dulo, Powe..R! Power!" (Those may not be his exact words but you get the point). And you call this guy an expert? WTF! That's the dumbest thing I've heard from any sports analyst/commentator here or abroad! If you want anymore proof, just look up any of his reports in youtube. You'll be surprised with all the gibberish that comes out of his mouth. I can't believe he gets paid for saying dumb and irrelevant things.

Your new avid fan,
Jason C. (Email me if you wanna say something back! Thank you sir!)

Good call on Chino. I actually remember his very first live broadcast on TV. It was a PBL game way back in the day and he was the courtside reporter for Bill Velasco and Butch Maniego. Camera shifts from the two analysts to a visibly flustered Chino with mic (for some reason he looks like he's about to cry). He stammers for a few seconds (kinda like Porky Pig on the Warner Bros cartoons end credits going -e-be-de-ebe-de dat's all folks) and blurts our an unintelligible courtside update. WTF. He looks like he has diarrhea and needs to go bad. As if that wasn't bad enough the next bit is priceless. He stares wide eyed into the camera to turn it back over to Bill and Butch (you can tell he wants to get this over with) and blurts out: "BACK TO YOU BULL AND BITCH!" His eyes actually widen some more upon realizing what he'd just done. His head snaps down, his eyes shut, he mutters someting (I think it was something to the effect of "Ay shet I'm packed!" Screen turns to Bill and Butch who are uncannily quiet then Bill calmly says, "Well, thank you Chino, for that update." Screen turns to commercial. TRUE STORY!

It's about time to roast this SOB ..... Chino Trinidad ....... WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE MOST ANNOYING COMMENTATOR EVER COVERING ANY SPORT !!!

I remember when this fool covered the PBA ..... it was absolute torture the ways this guy talks.

It was a bad combination of poor analysis, kanto-boy / braggart antics with a loud booming voice.

In all honesty, I turned the TV to MUTE even when this fool was covering the game.

OT: Mike Enriquez is Chino's equivalent when it comes to newscasting ..... it's a good thing walang masayadong yabang itong si Mike Enriquez.
