Kris and James: A tale of two statements

Posted by Jaemark Tordecilla on June 30, 2010 at 02:28 | Comments (9)
I had planned to write about Smart Gilas, but then I went out drinking with my high school friends tonight, and I couldn’t put any coherent thoughts into that subject. So since today is inauguration day, let’s just talk about some more details from the Kris-James breakup, this time from Ricky Lo’s Philippine Star column on Tuesday.

Here’s what James told Lo, after refusing to talk about the issue:

Kris Aquino and James Yap call it quits

Posted by Jaemark Tordecilla on June 28, 2010 at 22:44 | Comments (18)
PRESIDENT-ELECT Noynoy Aquino’s youngest sister, Kris has announced on nationwide TV that her marriage to basketball star James Yap is over. Reliable sources say a woman caused the split. She was identified as Kris Aquino.

-- The Professional Heckler, “One Last Cry”

The last time Kris Aquino and James Yap were involved in an issue like the one facing them now, Kris also went on The Buzz to discuss their marital woes. Kris told co-host Boy Abunda and a captive Pinoy audience, in between sobs, that her marriage was on the rocks. “I’ve tried, God knows I’ve tried. And in all fairness to James, he has also tried, but maybe, in my opinion, not hard enough,” Kris said. “I have never given him any reason to doubt my fidelity. I just want the same thing in return.”

Smart Gilas Insider thoughts: Marcus Douthit, Brian Goorjian, and the Jordan zone

Posted by gilasinsider on June 27, 2010 at 00:42 | Comments (9)
Editor’s note: One of the most valued commenters on this blog is a man who identifies himself only as GilasInsider. After communicating with him privately, I was able to verify his identity as someone close to the team, and he has since been sharing his insights on this blog for the benefit of the fans of the developmental team.

Late last night, he sent in this email, ahead of tonight's game between Gilas and the Jordan national team.

Smart Gilas struggles against Jordan

I rushed to the Ninoy Aquino Stadium tonight after a long day of work in the field just in time for the tipoff of Smart Gilas versus the Jordan national team. Gilas actually played well in the first half, taking a first quarter lead and keeping in step with the taller Jordanians at halftime.

Congressman Manny Pacquiao

On Monday last week, Sarangani representative-elect and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao began a ten-day crash course on governance at the Development Academy of the Philippines in Pasig City, amid fawning media coverage. The course, which was custom-developed for the pound-for-pound king, aims to give Pacquiao intensive training on the duties of a good legislator.

Ato Agustin

The big story coming out of the PBA last week were the major changes on the San Miguel bench, involving assistant coach Ato Agustin and head coach Siot Tanquingcen. Agustin, who was brought in earlier this conference to be part of the brain trust, assumed coaching duties during the Beermen’s loss to the Coca-Cola Tigers, while Tanquinqcen sat meekly at the sidelines.
