Smart Gilas plasters Powerade
I’m trying to find the right words to say about the very impressive win by Smart Gilas, which is hard, especially since after the game I went out drinking with j_myxx and NeekoBoi (and their awesome dad) of Patay ang Butiki, Gary of Basketball Exchange, a

HI, First comment here. Just happened to stumble upon your blog. Just thought I would share some observations...
You mention "between Toroman and the whole Japeth saga, it feels a little like we’re losing our collective basketball soul", I think we lost our "collective basketball soul " when NCC naturalized Americans like Dennis Still and Jeff Moore in the 80's ( although this has become an accepted norm in international play of late ). Toroman is not the first foreign coach hired to shape our national team, remember Ron Jacobs also of NCC days. I have no beef with either compromise, as long as the goal of winning for the country is shared. Toroman has the obvious advantage of international experience and advanced scouting. What has Yeng Guiao accomplished in international tournaments? He can cite the height difference as a reason to lose all he wants, but I challenge anybody to name a 7-footer from the Argentina Olympic championship team from 2004 or on the U.S. gold medal team last year . It's not all about height, coaching matters.
Japeth is a free agent until he signs a contract. Period, end of story. Just because Burger King holds exclusive draft rights, doesn't mean he's obligated to sign. The PBA may be new to this practice, but the NBA, NFL and MLB here in the U.S. have learned to deal with troublesome draftees. Teams now routinely negotiate BEFORE the draft or risk the chance of the player holding out (see NFL's Michael Crabtree, MLB's JD Drew and NBA's Ricky Rubio).
Willie Miller / James Yap as exciting as Lebron James??? Now you're really reaching! You just mentioned arguably the best basketball player on the planet in the same sentence with James Freakin' Yap!

It was Rafe who commented that the "yo-yo layups and pektos spin shots" can be as exciting as LBJ's dunks. Not exactly Willie Miller and James Yap being comparable to LBJ. The line just pointed how the Pinoy brand of basketball has its own flavor unique from the rest of the world.
Hello, I'm searching google and found your blog nice post. Mabuhay Sikat ang Pinoy!

Just in case you’ve been under a rock lately, an exhibition match will be held tonight at the Araneta Coliseum between Powerade Team Pilipinas, the team that represented the country in the 2009 Fiba-Asia Championship, and the Smart Gilas National Developmental Team, which is being eyed to compete in the 2011 Fiba-Asia tourney.
