Pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao still hitting it with Ara Mina?

There was an interesting tweet from PEP’s Scoopbox last night: “Manny Pacquiao was reportedly spotted with Ara Mina at Pan Pacific Hotel last nyt while d boxing champ was playing poker. How true?”

The idea of Pacquiao pokering around with Ara Mina isn’t news; their rumored affair caused a rift between him and his wife Jinkee, which in turn caused a lot of distractions in the lead-up to Pacquiao’s 2007 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera, much to the chagrin of Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach.

What’s curious about the tweet, though, is that he was hanging out at the Pan Pacific Hotel. It was the same place where he met and courted Joanna Rose Bacosa, with whom the pound-for-pound champ had a love child out of wedlock:

Her child, Bacosa said, was a product of two people in love that began at the billiard hall and videoke bar of Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila’s Malate district. Pacquiao was the billiard center’s frequent guest and player. She was its billiard “spotter” and waitress.

Bacosa and Pacquio first met there in February 2003.

Initially, the Palawan lass didn’t know he was Pacquiao, the boxing star. She had no interest in sports, she said. He was there almost every night, but what she noticed was that Pacquiao was calling her by her first name. The other male customers were simply calling her “Miss.”

“He was so nice and sweet. And he was paying me more attention than the rest,” Bacosa recalled. Pacquiao first invited her on a date in April 2003. She was about to wrap up her day’s work at 3 a.m. “Because I had grown fond of him, I didn’t think twice in joining him.”

They drove to a hotel in Pasay City, she said. In no time, Pacquiao and Joanna took a room and stayed there for hours. Before leaving, Pacquiao tried to give her money, but she turned it down, telling him she was not a sex worker.

She was with him because she was in love with him, Bacosa said. She was fully aware, she said, that he was a married man and had two kids by his legal wife.

In 2006, a year before the Ara Mina issue, Bacosa came out in the news alleging that Pacquiao had stopped paying for child support for their kid.

Anyway, I’m starting to get REALLY worried about Pacquiao. Instead of training for his upcoming fight with Miguel Cotto, he’s out shooting his god-awful television sitcom or his next movie (which will probably be god-awful too).

Also, just this year two retired athletes, boxer Arturo Gatti and football quarterback Steve McNair, made headlines because of their violent deaths. Gatti’s wife, who had a rocky and violent relationship with the boxer, is suspected of strangling him to death (with her handbag!), while McNair was murdered by a woman with whom he had been having an extra-marital affair.

Just a comment on Manny. Stick to boxing. When you say you give moral support to Singson, you are lowering yourself in the eyes of your fans and making yourself look like a fool. Singson is a criminal and should be put in jail for beating and torturing his common law wife. He is also a high ranking government official whose conduct should be perfect at all times. He should lose his position in government and face his accuser in a trial. So, Manny, my dear boxing legend, think hard and long before aligning yourself with bad people such as Singson. When you give your moral support to Singson you are telling me and your fans that you believe what he did was right and that you probably treat your wife the same as he does. I hope that is not true, but you know they say birds of a feather stick together. Power, money, fame and adulation, all lead to bad things for people with weak minds that are easily influenced by bad people. For you, fame is nice, but realize you will not always be a champion and long after your boxing days are done, you will be judged by your heart and how you treated people.
